Winnipeg, MB - Fresh off of an extended Spring Break, the SHOCK 15's were back at it again in preparation for the upcoming Premiere Series Event, held April 8-10th, at Red River College. An interesting week of training, with some athletes battling the flu, nursing small injuries meant that it was time for the health bodies to step up and take charge during training, and leading into the competition. In true form, the girls did exactly that, and picked up each other over the course of the week, further building the bond between teammates. This is a special group that has worked tirelessly over the course of the year to continue to strive for excellence, and they would not be stopped this week. Through pool play, SHOCK wend undefeated and sat atop Pool C. After pushing into the semi final vs Royals, the girls had a good test ahead. With attention to game plan, the girls were able to move past the Royals and off to the finals vs Dynamo for a 2nd straight week. With lots of energy in the gym, and the remaining matches completed, all eyes were on Court 1 as these groups were set to square off again. After a tight first set, SHOCK was in the drivers seat with a 1-0 lead, and momentum moving into the 2nd set. The 2nd set saw much of the same for SHOCK, with some great serving from Leia Jaworksi, and a breakout performance from Zoe Dyck on the left side. SHOCK won the final 2-0 and secured its position (2nd) in the rankings moving forward into Provincial Championships. Congrats and best of luck the rest of the way to all the competition!
Selkirk, MB - The SHOCK 15's rolled into Selkirk this year to face new competition this season and to see how they measure up against other teams at the 15u level. Throughout the weekend, the girls were tested numerous times, and showed some true grit by finishing strong in the final after a bit of a slow start. SHOCK started Friday with 2 wins to set the stage for Saturday morning, which saw a closed bridge affect travel to the gym. In familiar fashion, the group stepped up, and used the adversity to fuel a strong playoff push, with 2 sets wins coming against both Big Sand and Dynamo in the final to seal the deal. Strong offensive contributions from Alexa Wieczorkiewicz and Mia Hildebrandt, followed by some expected strong serving from setter Victoria Duester, helped push SHOCK to the top of the chart for this weekend. back to work for a week before enjoying some time off over the Spring Break. Congratulations girls!
The SHOCK 15's got exactly what they wanted this weekend, squaring off against some talented teams in pool play. The girls finished pool play with 2 wins and 1 loss, and advanced into the semi final vs a very good Bisons 16's group. SHOCK was able to show some flashes of greatness with excellent defence to begin the match, but the Bisons proved to be too much on this day, and took the match 2-0. SHOCK faced off against Winman in the 3rd place match, and took both sets to win the match 2-0, and secure 3rd place in a tough tournament. Congrats ladies!
