Going into the Provincial Championships as the #1 ranked team can be a good or a bad thing. Either you are perfect and don't disappoint, or you lose one match and the weekend is a bust. The SHOCK 14's went into this weekends Provincial Championships at Red River College as the #1 ranked team, and certainly did not disappoint. After going 3-0 on day 1 of pool play, they faced off against the Jr. Bisons in the quarter final, and stormed into the semi by scores of 25-15 and 25-11, setting up a date with the Cats in the semi final. After a solid team performance in this match, SHOCK was moving on to the final to play against the #2 ranked Dynamo. Great serving and some timely kills helped SHOCK win both sets, and earn their first Provincial Championship as a group. Congratulations to the coaches and athletes of this group, as this win surely makes journey well worth it. Now it is time to set your sets on the gold at westerns in Abbotsford, BC in 2 weeks. Best of luck girls! Go SHOCK!
SHOCK 16's had their final tune up before the MVA provincial championships next weekend at Red River College, and made the most of their opportunity. The team played well in pool play, defeating Dynamo Grey, Storm Black and Fury before meeting Storm Blue in the quarterfinal. After a solid 2 set win, SHOCK would face off against a very competitive Cats team who would give SHOCK a great test in the semi final. After a few back and forth runs in the first set, the Cats played great defence and won the first set by a score of 26-24. After going down 12-5 in the 2nd set, SHOCK had to regroup and keep chipping away in order to push it to a 3rd frame. With some great serving from Alexa Kozlowski, and several thundering kills on the outside from Zoë Dyck and Alexa Wieczorkiewicz, they took the 2nd set and came out on top in a tight 3rd set, winning by a score of 16-14. After Winman defeated Dynamo in the other semi final, the two teams would meet for the first time this year in what would be a well played final. After a back and forth start, SHOCK pulled away in both sets to win the match 2-0 and get back to the top of the podium just in time for the MVA provincial championships next weekend at Red River College. Train hard this week and good luck next weekend!
Congratulations to the coaching staff and athletes of the SHOCK 17u team as they came home from Brandon last weekend with some hardware for their efforts at the Provincial Championships held at Brandon University. SHOCK had a good day of pool play on Saturday, and faced off against Dynamo in the semi final, coming out on top in 2 sets to advance to the final against the Jr. Bisons. In a very competitive and tight match, SHOCK came up just short of taking the gold after losing 16-14 in the 3rd set against a very skilled Jr. Bisons team. Special congratulations to both Melonie Einarsson and Sumathi Santiago for earning All-Star nominations for their hard work over the weekend. We are very proud of you girls!
Best of luck at Nationals next weekend in Edmonton. Keep working hard!
Congratulations to the 14u SHOCK group that won the BU Cats Classic held at the Healthy Living Center in Brandon on March 24th/25th. The girls had a great weekend and capped off an impressive weekend with a win over Club West in the semi finals, and Dynamo in the finals. The 13u group had a tough schedule and dropped their quarter final matchup against the 14u SHOCK team, tying for 5th place at the 14 event. This is the 2nd Gold medal for the 14u group this year, as they look to peak at the right time before provincials at the end of the month. Best of luck the rest of the way girls and keep racking up the W's!
