Winnipeg, MB - As the SHOCK 13u team entered their first National Championships, the goal was to get valuable experience and compete with some good opponents before signing off for the summer. This team has competed against the older crowd all year long, with the group being comprised of Grade 6 and 7 athletes. They knew they were in for a challenge, and thats exactly what they got. Starting 3-0 on Day 1 was good to help the confidence, as they headed into power pool play on Day 2. With 3 tough opponents in their pool, SHOCK played some great volleyball in games 1 and 2 and were 2-0 heading into their final match against Winman. The girls ran out of magic for the day, and dropped the final match 2-0. Sunday saw SHOCK playing in a Division 2 Tier 1 quarter final vs Bisons Black. SHOCK dropped the first set, but came back to win the next two by scores of 25-20 and 15-11. Off to the semi finals vs Rink Rats, where SHOCK bested by scores of 25-20 and 25-18. A Bronze medal was still on the table in their final match vs RCV Crush Purple, and in a thriller, SHOCK won in the 3rd set by a 15-13 margin. Timely serving and controlled passing allowed the girls to win their first medal at a National Championship, and will surely encourage the girls to compete again next year at their own age group. What a great first season for the girls, and congratulations to the all of the coaches and athletes for their hard work this season. Have a great summer and see you back in the gym soon!
